My End Goal.
Coming from a marginalized community, I have seen many people in my intimate family struggle financially and as a result, cut cost on medical care. One of the many goals I wish to accomplish in my career is influenced by my desire to support and give back to those in my community. Through my time at UNC I have been able to explore my passion for chemistry more deeply, especially my love for biochemistry. I have always shown interest in the development of vaccinations and other pharmaceutical medications. By connecting my desires with my academic passions in drug production, I hope to focus my career on creating products that are effective and cost friendly. Thus, providing resources to a wider range of the population regardless of economic class.

How Level The Playing Field Has Helped Me
NetworkingBeing apart of the Cohort has allowed me the opportunity to meet several influential and path changing individuals. This environment has allowed me to feed off of that energy and strive to create a successful and ambitious career path for myself.

Sense of CommunityIn field so heavily concentrated with white males it is easy to feel lost and insecure in your career path. Yet this cohort has introduced me to several people of color and women working in the chemistry field. This helped me to feel more comfortable and confident in my place in the science community.

DirectionBeing in contact with a variety of great mentors in the chemistry field has allowed me a better understanding of my path towards my end goals. Having individuals to mentor me on internship applications and research opportunities has been very useful. The program has also given me the opportunity to discuss the graduate program process, both in regards to the application itself and the expectations expected of me once entering.
